The Last Days of Summer

On the second last day before the fall semester rolled around again, the boyfriend and I took ourselves over the PNE at Playland for an "end of the summer date" (according to his Facebook status update). Luckily, I had received two free passes for the PNE from work, which made us feel a tad bit better about spending a hefty $20 on parking. I quite enjoyed the relaxing night during which we ate the typical fare at the Fair, listened to the Summer Night Concerts (Lights was performing that particular night), and took a gander around the various exhibitions.
We found this random little garden walkway while trying to get away from the crowds for a while.
We learned a new term on that day in church: "phubbing" or "phone-snubbing." A point that obviously is relevant...
It's always good to buy your poutine from a place that also sells "Guidos Pizza."
Nom nom nom! Montreal Smoked Meat Poutine.
I always drag my long-suffering boyfriend into the Save On Foods Barnyard exhibit because I'm still an animal lover at heart. Ever since I was a child, I've had the utmost fascination with almost all of God's creatures and I still can spout off the most random factoids about many of them...
A cute little heifer named Ruby.
Grinning Alpacas.
Cow behinds.
These snoozing cuties were just too much!
(More photos after the jump.)

A quick perusal of the crafts and food section of the barnyard exhibit.
This little toddler was just as adorable as the fuzzy ducklings.
A mandatory coffee stop for us before we decided to brave the crowds of the expo centre.
A guilty grin as he gambled a few dollars away...
Bright lights, accompanied by the performance of the singer Lights. While we both didn't think she performed live particularly well, she sure did receive the approval of a rather surprisingly enthusiastic audience.

Overall, walking around a fair that is a quintessential part of a Vancouver summer was the perfect way to end off this season. While I'll miss the summertime and its gorgeous weather, I do look forward to some changes in the near future, whether they be meteorological or otherwise.
