A Girl for Charity: The Girls Wine + Breast Cancer Awareness

When many of us live such privileged lives, we often can be at a loss for how to help those who are in need of our emotional and financial support. However, there are many ways in which we can easily give to those who are less fortunate than us in terms of money, relationships, and health. Sometimes there are even opportunities in which you have a little fun while contributing to charitable causes!

When I was given the chance to work with Fortune Cellars by sampling their The Girls wines, I was immediately on board with the idea of dressing and drinking up for a good cause. This Canadian organization, which carries wines made by TIME Estate Winery in southern Okanagan, gives 100% of its profits to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in order to help researchers and doctors find a cure for this terrible disease. Additionally, The Girls Rosé won the gold prize at the BC Okanagan Wine Festival this past fall. As a result, purchasers of these quality wines can drink in complete contentment knowing that they are helping to fight one of the more dangerous cancers in our present day society. So why not buy a bottle or two for a fun girl's night in and create more awareness for this worthy cause in the process?

While wine has been an acquired taste since I reached legal drinking age a few years back, I certainly have gained an appreciation for it since I have a fiancé who is obsessed with the stuff. In this post, I was permitted to try both The Girls Red and The Girls Rosé, both of which were fabulous in their own way. The rosé is a wonderful mix of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc; meanwhile, the red is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. If these names are meaningless to you, fear not-- it's not nearly as confusing as you might believe.

For wine newbies, rosé is generally known for being a lighter wine with a "clean, pure, vibrant mouthfeel." The Girls Rosé possesses "a soft pink colour with an intensely fragrant, floral nose of raspberry and wild strawberry." So, if you don't feel like hitting the liquor hard, you can refresh yourself with just a 12.3% alcoholic content. On the other hand, the red variety seeks to provide "youthful fresh notes of raspberry, red cherry, cloves, and anise" and contains 14.2% alcohol. Furthermore, check out the absolutely chic design on the bottles: those corsets and iconic pink ribbons make it irresistible for the girly-girls out there. Don't forget that you can also use wine to cook delicious meals-- it's just one more reason to make such a win-win purchase.

If you wish to participate in this cause, visit Fortune Cellar's website here for a full list of stores that will be carrying The Girls wines. Both wines are available for affordable prices: The Girls Red is offered for $24.99 while the The Girls Rosé is priced at $19.99.

Because I wanted to do something a little special for this post, I decided to shoot these photos indoors in a more dressy (yet still moderately casual) outfit that I could wear for a stylish yet comfortable girl's night in. After finally finding a headpiece for myself (I'm still on the hunt for some gold headpieces to complete my burgeoning collection), I was happy to finally wear it here with a suitably fancy outfit-- a gold party dress that I bought in Las Vegas covered by a cute sweater from H&M. I actually wore a pair of sexy BCBG Max Azria heels for this post; sadly, all the photos containing the shoes didn't turn out well so I'll have to save them for a future outfit. I won't lie: it was tricky to set up the shoot indoors when I had to think about lighting, setting, and how to pose with the wine bottles and glasses. Let's hope I didn't completely fail in my ambitious endeavour!

Do you think you could drink a few glasses of wine for a good charitable cause like this?

  3. So you found your dress!!! Saw it on your Instagram and got so excited! I bet you're so happy. I'm so happy haha!

This post is beautiful. I love that you can do something you enjoy and donate to something so amazing at the same time. I love wine, especially white and rose. I'm so glad that this is an option. I only wish it was an option in the usa. Maybe it is and I just have not discovered it yet. Thanks so much for sharing this. This is definitely a cause that hits close to home. Such a great idea and so lovely that all the profits are donated.

Also, your outfit is so lovely. I love that headpiece. Totally wish I could rock one and look as chic as you!

  4. I love the fact this charity gives 100% of the proceed to charity. That is rarity of itself. Second is the fact that you can drink a glass of wine with the girls, and help out a great cause. I say that is a win...win situation. Will check this site for more information on this charity and see it is available in the states.

On to this outfit....I love the dress and the headband, it makes those whole outfit very modern and vintage like. The red lipstick finalize everything making this a very lovely outfit.

By the way, Indoor "outfit" photography is always tricky, and I can never get it right, that is why I don't even try. Seeing yours is giving me hope. Have a nice day.

  14. I love the whole idea behind and the fact that it's for a very good cause. I could definetely see myself sipping some non-alcoholic wines for a good cause like this. I don't drink alcohol no more but I remember that the rosé types were always my favourite over red wines. Thanks for sharing and I really cherish your support for this serious matter.
The design of each bottle are so unique and chic. Perfect for a ladies night at home.

But let me get to your outfit which is really really classy. I like this look a lot. You look like a high-class lady with lots of money with the fur and golden elements. Loving your headpiece as well and still need some more in my collection too. Also loving your ring and nail polish. Make-up on pointé as always.

    Happy weekend Debs.

By the way, I just cannot get enough of your makeup. Your fur vest, that skirt, and sweater are amazing and every single one of those accessories perfect, BUT YOUR MAKEUP?! Omg. I need someone to help me with my makeup so that I can look half as good as you do. <3
